Youth Program
The LRCOC Youth Program is lead Youth Director, JD Buckner. The goal was to provide a long-term program for our Youth to become closer to God and grow into mature Christian adults. To help with this new direction, a Youth Committee has been established under the direction of three Deacons. The Committee is as follows:
Committee Leaders:
- Al Cravens
- David Schow
- Alan Witt
Committee Members:
- Lon Keele
- Richard Roberson
- Scotty Studer
We are very excited about the direction we are headed. Check out what is going on with our youth, get involved and pray for our success.
Listed below are a few of the activities the youth have enjoyed in the past few years:
Kentucky Kingdom - Everyone had a wonderful day at the Kentucky Kingdom amusement park. Lots of thrills and chills for the brave.
Weekly Devotionals - Most Sunday evenings each month, the youth conduct a devotional at someone's home. Worship, combined with food and fellowship, make these devotionals wonderful events.
Youth Rallies - Four or five of these youth rallies are held each year. These are weekend trips to various rallies sponsored by local congregations.
Summer Youth Series - This youth series is conducted in the summer months only and is held each Thursday evening. A brief devotional and food make these get togethers fun for everyone.
Service Day - These events are planned to assist our elderly and shutins with tasks they need accomplished for their homes or yards.
Harvest Banquet - This banquet is hosted each year for our Young At Heart members. Our youth serve the members and sometimes provide the entertainment.
Putt-Putt - The young people get together to go for a round of putt-putt at a local Nashville course. We have quite a few golfers in our group who make this a challenging event.
Monday Night Madness - This event is a night-out for our youth to the mall or movies. The kids have a great time and their parents probably enjoy their own night out without the kids.
Fall & Spring Retreats - Our youth group attends a fall and spring retreat each year for a weekend. These retreats are held at various nature sites in Tennessee. This fall, the retreat is planned for Short Mountain.
Ice Skating - Our youth group enjoyed a fun-filled evening on ice this winter with many falls and laughs.
Freed-Hardeman University RUSH - Each year, the youth group attends the Freed-Hardeman University RUSH event. This outing provides our teenagers with a look at college life and allows them to meet and socialize with several Freed-Hardeman students.
Canoe Trip - Our youth enjoyed a wet and refreshing day canoeing on a Tennessee river. We were exhausted, but had a blast.
Summer Camp - In 2005, we held our first week long camp using the facilities at Valley View Camp. The camp was a huge success with around 75 campers and many volunteers to help.
If you have any questions regarding our youth program, have recommendations for upcoming events, or would like to become involved in this ministry, please contact our Committee.
